Why Greens Matters?
Green leafy vegetables are packed with natural compounds that protect your body:
Antioxidants: fight harmful free radicals
Anti‑inflammatory agents: calm inflammation
Protective compounds: lower the risk of chronic diseases
They also contain polyphenols, which help your body’s natural detox system by neutralizing toxins and supporting antioxidant enzymes.
Preventing Lifestyle Diseases
Eating greens regularly can lower the risk of many common health problems, such as:
• Fatty liver, gallstones, constipation
• Diabetes, obesity, anemia, heart disease
• Infertility (male and female), menstrual issues
• High blood pressure and other metabolic disorders
This is because greens are rich in essential vitamins (A, B6, B9, B12, C, E), minerals (magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron), and dietary fiber that keep your body running smoothly.
Greens and Metabolic Health
Metabolic diseases like diabetes, obesity, and kidney problems are often linked to oxidative stress—an imbalance that causes inflammation and tissue damage. The phytochemicals in leafy greens help reduce this stress, support detoxification, and protect your cells.
Special Note for Thyroid Patients
Not all greens are suitable for everyone. People with thyroid issues should be cautious with Brassica vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, turnip, radish, and collard greens.
These vegetables contain compounds (benzyl isothiocyanates and thiocyanates) that can interfere with thyroid function. For example, eating too much radish may raise thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and lower T3/T4 levels, which can lead to hypothyroidism.
Adding a variety of green leafy vegetables to your diet is a simple, natural way to detoxify your body, strengthen immunity, and prevent lifestyle diseases. Just remember—if you have thyroid problems, limit Brassica vegetables.
